The X-tremely Cool New Blancpain X Fathoms

Making a splash into the luxury diver's watch market, Blancpain premiered its latest concept timepiece, the sporty X Fathoms, at Dubai's extravagant Aquarium and Underwater Zoo - complete with a spectacular stunt dive by diving champ Gianluca Genoni, holder of more than 15 free-diving records.
As for the timepiece itself, the X Fathoms is being billed by Blancpain as 'the most high-performance mechanical diving watch ever produced'. With its depth measure of up to 90 meters and maximum depth reached memory, separate indication on the 0-15m scale with an exceptional +/- 30 cm precision, and retrograde 5-minute counter for decompression stops, the X Fathoms concept watch may just live up to its Swiss creator's superlatives.

The X Fathoms' movement, reference 9918B, is based off the Manufacture-made Calibre 1315, a powerhouse workhorse that has fuelled several models in the brand's popular Fifty Fathoms collection. Self-winding and equipped with three barrels ensuring a five-day power reserve, the X Fathoms' silicon balance-spring also works hard to ensure the watch stays impervious to magnetic disturbances.

Its industrial-cool 55.65 mm case, wrought from satin-brushed titanium, is water-resistant to 30 bar. It also features a helium decompression valve for saturation diving and the unidirectional rotating bezel characteristic to the collection for almost 60 years. A true diver's watch, extensive research and testing by Blancpain show that the elastic properties and the resistance to permanent deformation of amorphous metal make this material ideal for the depth gauge membrane; the stability of this alloy also prevents the formation of structural microcracks.
