In a sign of the burgeoning popularity of mobile commerce and our willingness to purchase big-ticket items online, Blue Nile announced that one of its customers has bought a US$300,000 diamond engagement ring through its dedicated iPhone app.
While this might surprise the more tactile shoppers among us who might prefer a first-person's look at an item before making a decision, John Baird, brand and corporate communications director for Blue Nile, said: “Large jewelry purchases, running from a few thousand to tens of thousands of dollars, via smartphones happen quite frequently."
"When it comes to diamonds and fine jewelry, Blue Nile’s mobile shopping site and iPhone app are extremely powerful tools.”
